All's well that ends... well?

TUESDAY

So, yeah... I'm definitely back in whatever stasis I was with Gary before Friday when I grew a pair and said, "No more!". We made up yesterday, both realizing that life without the other sucked ass and that we needed to keep working on whatever weirdness this is to see where it leads us. That fine set of balls I grew came and went faster than skinny Oprah.

I know each day is precious, but Tuesday is a total tease. It's not the first day of the week and not quite the middle of the week. You have nothing to look forward to on Tuesday. You might say, "Well, tomorrow is Wednesday", and to that I say "Fuck you" but with only my highest regards.

Thursday, now there's a day I can get excited about. On Thursday, tomorrow is Friday and the weekend is peeking over the hill. Oh, and all assignments are due on Tuesday nights for school. Adult learning. Total buzz kill.

People tend to complain about Monday. Psshh... I don't dislike Monday. It's the beginning of a new week and a new chance to kick ass and build my legacy (and my army of cybernetic clones).

Oh, bam! My roommate is gone for a few days to attend several funerals. Yeah - more than one. I don't know what happened but I do know it wasn't a related incident. With her "out on business" I have free rein of the apartment! Let me tell you, I have never done as much half dressed dancing as I have in these last two days. It's a wonderful feeling. Tonight, after homework, I might go "full Monty". 0.o

If you're reading this, thank you. You're a beautiful person with a kind soul. Seriously. I didn't expect anyone to even look at this when I started putting it together and now I have people who read me everyday? Insanity... You guys are awesome. I mean it.

Until we meet again,

Song of the Day: The Week in Review

If you read my first blog, you know that my taste in music is incredibly eclectic. I try to stay up with all the new sounds that are coming out in a steady stream, but I will revert to oldies but goodies some days. Don't you love those songs that creep out of nowhere and jerk you back to a time from your past that you thought you'd forgotten?

This is the week of 9/3/12 to 9/9/12.  Feel free to post your own song of the day in the comments!

Monday, 9/3/12: "This Head I Hold" by Electric Guest

Asa Toccone and and Matthew Compton, a couple of young, attractive guys from LA, absolutely kill this retro track. The single, from their debut album Mondo, released in April this year, is a catchie throw-back with a super fresh sound. Crank this baby up when you're cooking dinner tonight.

Tuesday, 9/4/12: "Fire Escape" by Civil Twilight

South Africa has been spitting out some pretty kick ass artists these past few decades. Civil Twilight is no exception. "Fire Escape" from their album Holy Weather, released in March this year, is a drum and bass heavy U2esque rock ballad. I dig it.

Wednesday, 9/5/12: "Dirty Paws" by Of Monsters and Men

Folk music is at a serious upswing on the Indie scene. Of Monsters and Men tell a beautiful story in "Dirty Paws", the first track on their newest album My Head Is an Animal released in September, 2011. The vocal harmonies are haunting and the six member group fill your ears with their beautiful instruments. Yep. I said it. Filling you up with their instruments.

Thursday, 9/6/12: "Settle Down" by Kimbra

This funky song from rising artist, Kimbra, was the first single released from her album Vows, her first album released in the US in May of this year. Kimbra is adorable with her Wednesday Adams dress and black ringlet curls in the official music video that shows us every little girl's fantasy. To grow up... I think this song may have spurned my actions Friday morning with Gary. Crap.

Friday, 9/7/12: "Disparate Youth" by Santigold

"Disparate Youth" is a fast-paced yet mellow groove that reminds us why we so love Santigold. Her molten- honey voice pulls you up and down through the currents of the first single from her album Master of My Make-Believe, released February, 2012. I can imagine cruising down a coastal highway with the top down with this song vibrating my speakers.

Saturday, 9/8/12: "Hold On" by Alabama Shakes

Oh, how I am loving this band right now! Lead vocalist, Brittney Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell and drummer Steve Johnson have created something spectacular with "Hold On" their single from the album Boys & Girls released in April, this year. This incredibly soulful "don't give up" blues ballad is one of the best new songs I've heard this year. The Alabama Shakes. Do it. D-Do it.

Sunday, 9/9/12: "Swing Tree" by Discovery

Discovery is a recording project with Raman Batmanglij, the keyboardist from Vampire Weekend and Wesley Miles, the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot collaborating on the album LP, released in 2009. "Swing Tree" is the sixth track on LP, but hasn't gotten nearly enough publicity. This song makes me feel like a million dollars, what with its upbeat, bouncy digitized wonderfulness. This song is fun to shower to. Don't try and picture me doing it. Go try it for yourself. Remember, electronics and water do NOT mix. Practice safe shower dancing.

That's the week in nutshell! Stayed tuned. Next Sunday will unveil a brand new list of seven songs that got me through my week.

Until next week, my distinguished readers! Remember to post any songs of the day you want in the comments below!

Stupid cell phone...

This stupid cell phone. I hate the thing, but I can't put the bastard down. I sleep with it beside my head and keep it either in my pocket or in my bra all throughout the day.

With the recent "break-up" still fresh and with all my hopes built up so thick that they're all I can focus on, I woke every two hours last night, springing awake and grabbing my phone hopefully expectant.

Nothing...

It makes me want to punch this phone in its face. I am not okay with how this whole scenario is making me feel. I just want to get over this and find someone who wants me as much as I want them. I deserve that. Everyone deserves that.

The worst part of this is the desperation I feel about losing Gary. Like I couldn't possibly exist without him. Like my heart will wither and die if it's not allowed to love him. Like he was the man of my dreams and I will never find anyone that can even compare to him.

I have a question to anyone who will answer it:  What is better; having your best friend whom you are also desperately in love with string you along for an indefinite number of years or losing them because you need more from them? Am I the asshole?

As ever, thank you all for reading.  Song of the day, up next!

Psst... Your balls are showing...

"Oh crap. He saw us! Shut the fudge up and get under the table!"

Distinguished readers,

Just a quick heads up before we get started; this is my first blog - ever. So, before you start emailing about my poor grammar or other little tidbits that I need to learn in my blogging career, keep that in mind and be gentle. I bruise easily...

Who am I and why should you read my posts, you say?  Well, my name is Nicola, I'm twenty-nine and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm about five foot eight inches tall and have Sponge Bob teeth. What of it? I mascarade as a fluffy person, but inside I'm a size four. I have severe, arched eyebrows and big, blue-green eyes. I like to talk with my hands and play guitar.

This is my last year in my twenties so I'm going to do a lot of things I haven't yet. Some of these things are going to be exciting and some are going to be down-right stupid. The thing is, we only get one shot at this (unless you subscribe to reincarnation which I may... I'm just not sure about it yet) and we have to make the most of the short time we get.  While I'm living through these things, I'm going to blog about them so those of you who choose to take a safer path can live vicariously through these digital pages.

The spark for this blog was a break up. Yesterday. If you can even call it that. The guy who we'll call Gary to spare his identity was my best friend and we were getting along great. I wanted more. He couldn't give me more and kept saying to give him time. I just ran out of patience. Before you think I'm cold and crass, let me go ahead and tell you that I've been in this limbo with him for more than a year. I finally asked him if he was in love with me. His answer indicated that he was but couldn't act on it right now so he didn't want to be selfish by telling me that he was because he wanted me to live rather than wait for him to make up his mind. It hurts so much because he's the best guy I've ever met. He works hard, is talented and incredibly intelligent and kind. Absolutely, he is everything I want in a man, companion, best friend, partner in crime, etc. I can even see myself growing old with him and what our hilarious kids would look like. Good Lord, those kids would have some hilarious teeth...

So, I told him I wouldn't wait anymore and that I needed to completely sever all ties with him so I could get over him.  It feels like I'm imploding. My heart practically weighs a ton.  Even as I type this, Pandora is playing "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness. I thought the break would give him the time he needs to see what life is like without me. If it was awesome when I was there, he won't want to lose that. I think there's a chance that he'll rethink things and call me. We'll see, I guess.

There will be more to write about Gary later. I'm going to tell you all the hilarious and horrible things we've gotten into over the course of our relationship. Trust me when I tell you, it will make you laugh and cry.

I will also be sharing a great deal of my favorite music with you. I have an eclectic taste and will try anything once - musically, that is. Okay, so anything else, too. I'll try to post a song of the day every day but more than likely, I will just post seven songs on one day of the week so I don't make myself a liar by saying I will post every day.

So, that's what this is. It will grow and change over time, I'm sure. I'm excited to be sharing this with you all! I don't know you yet, but I'm sure you'll begin to develop a picture of who I am over time. Thank you for reading!
